My column, my thoughts, my opinions.

In my opinion:

Zombies!

•Zombies are overrated.

•Gabriel Hardman’s art is some of the most incredible work in comics right now.

•One day, not today, Aquaman and wonder woman will live up to their potential and truly be interesting characters.

•Just because you’re an artist, publisher, retailer, inker, letterer, colorist or novelist doesn’t mean you’re a comic book writer.

•The time of the comic book collector is dying. We are seeing less and less comic book collectors. It used to be that if you read comics, that meant you also collected them. just check out the tens of thousands here at the Ranch to see what I mean. With the digital age and the aging of baby Boomers, younger comic book readers don’t really care about having tons of back issues clog up the arteries of their house. They want to read and move on. It’s all changing. I’m not saying it’s for the better or the worse, I’m just saying it’s changing.

•The time of the comic book reader is growing.

John Romita’s The incredible Spider-Man Artist’s Edition

•I have waited all my sin-filled life for this book: John Romita’s The incredible Spider-Man Artist’s edition from IDW Publishing. A masterpiece book done in the same size as the original art, a showcase of what all mainstream superhero art should look like. Don’t deny yourself of this once in a life time treat. (Editor’s note: You can pre-order it from Westfield here.)

•Entertaining and fun comic book titles:

G.I. Joe (IDW Publishing)

Guns and Dinos

Frank Cho’s guns and Dinos (Image Comics)

Dark horse presents (Dark horse Comics)

Justice league international (DC Comics)

Captain America (Marvel Comics)

Daredevil (Marvel Comics)

Defenders (Marvel Comics)

All-Star Western (DC Comics)

Avengers 1959 (Marvel Comics)

•As a publisher, if you say you’re going to pay a creator, then PAY THEM! (You know who you are.)

•Now is the time to sell your Silver and Bronze Age comics.

•You need to support the comic books you love with your wallet and by writing the publisher and letting them know you are being entertained.

•If you DON’T like a comic book, then don’t buy it. It’s as simple as that.

Frankenstein agent of shade written by Jeff Lemire

•Comic book writer Jeff Lemire has incredible range and can write any genre.

•Variant covers are the mullet haircut of comic books.

Surprisingly, Batman can laugh.

•Most mainstream superheroes have no sense of humor. (Yes, your pointy ears are burning, Batman.)

•You should take the time to truly read what you’re buying.

•Comic books are not going to continue in the form that we are used to. No, I don’t mean they are going to vanish, I mean the system of how we buy them and where is going to change. how comic books are distributed is also going to change, much like that of popular music. A new system is being built and being used. We are all on the crest of this changing wave, some will hang ten and ride it in, others will wipe out. having an open mind and a finger on the pulse of these changes will insure that you will continue to enjoy all the wonderment that comic books can bring you.

I don’t have all the answers, but I do have opinions.
